Ford is adding to its Fiesta lineup with a high-powered ST edition, and a super fuel-efficient three-cylinder EcoBoost model. The 2014 Ford Fiesta lineup launched at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show also benefits from a stylish new look and an upgrade to MyFordTouch featuring Nuance voice recognition technology and a 6.5-inch touchscreen. 2014 Ford Fiesta ST Sporty ST models benefit from super snug Recaro racing seats, a lowered suspension, and a quicker steering ratio. Ford Fiesta 2014.
2014 Ford Fiesta ST Available exclusively as a five-door hatchback in North America, the sporty new Fiesta ST boasts a high-output variant of Ford's 1.6-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine mated to a six-speed manual transmission to boast 197 horsepower and 214 lb-ft of torque, as well as up to 34 miles per gallon. And, helping the Fiesta become the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid subcompact in America with a projected best 40 mpg-plus fuel economy (official EPA testing is not yet complete), is a 123-horsepower/1.0-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine.
Including this new fuel-efficient Fiesta, next year Ford will offer eight vehicles rated at 40 mpg or higher double today’s total, and more than any other automaker. Pricing is not yet available, but as with the other EcoBoost engines offered in Ford’s lineup, the 1.0-liter should be an affordable option, as adding an EcoBoost engine costs about $995 in most other Ford vehicles. Chevy Silverado 2014

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
The 2014 Silverado made its auto show debut in Detroit on Monday. The pickup truck, along with the redesigned GMC Sierra, has been reworked with a lighter but stiffer frame and cab, a fresh interior with video screens and wireless connectivity, and three new engines one V6 and two V8s. The trucks have the same basic styling as the previous generation of pickups, but underneath the hood is a trio of engines from the fifth generation of GM's small-block engine family
That introduce a suite of fuel-saving technologies: direct fuel injection, which puts the fuel directly into each cylinder; continuously variable valve timing, which adjusts the opening and closing of the valves based on engine load; and cylinder deactivation, which shuts down some of the engine's cylinders during light-load driving. 2014 Chevy Silverado Interior View.
The truck engines are a 4.3-liter V6, 5.3-liter V8 and a 6.2-liter V8. They use aluminum blocks and cylinder heads to shed weight, compared to iron blocks and heads. The automatic transmission now uses six gears, up from four. To further enhance fuel efficiency, the Silverado sees some aerodynamically enhanced styling cues. Door mirrors were redesigned, triple-seal doors are inlaid into the body, and the roof and tailgate were designed for smoother airflow.
While the overall look doesn't change much, the Chevy pickup is more sculpted, and there is a twin-port grille and full-width bumper. The Silverado is also more accessible, with larger rear doors that are front-hinged. To better access the truck bed, there are corner steps integrated into the rear bumper, and handholds on the bed. The bed can also be equipped with new upper tie-down hooks, under-rail LED lighting and an easy-lift-and-lower tailgate.
Inside is a six-gauge instrument cluster with an optional center-mounted 4.2-inch information center for vehicle status information. Multiple storage options include a mini filing cabinet in the center console. Knobs are also specially coated with rubber to make them easy to grip, even when wearing gloves.

Nissan Sentra 2013

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
The 2013 Nissan Sentra makes its first play for conquest customers with completely revised sheetmetal. And, while the very general proportions have carried over from the sixth to this new seventh-generation Sentra the stubby, wide nose and abbreviated trunk lid are both familiar this new car looks very little like its sharply creased predecessor. If we're blunt, we don't care much for what the designers have done. The rounded, pugnacious front end gives the Sentra added visual height from the front view, while the high beltline and bulging character line do the same for the profile view.
In total, despite the fact that this Sentra is just a little bit lower and longer than the last model, it looks altogether more top-heavy. The new Sentra's ride quality was nearly as impressive as its noise, vibration and harshness tuning, as here again the Nissan made a passable impression of a larger, more expensive vehicle. Suspension compliance over potholes and such was excellent; the Sentra's primary ride was rarely upset by a cracked bit of asphalt or even some washboard-like sections we found on an unpaved back road. 2013 Nissan Sentra Interior.
In fact, whether we were just kicking back on the highway or pushing the car pretty hard on a fun road, the Sentra's suspension kept the wheels firmly planted on the road, with not much kickback in the steering or through the seats. the combination of Nissan's 1.8-liter four-cylinder and its revised continuously variable transmission hugely colors our impressions of the vehicle. The new engine is thoroughly more efficient and has a higher specific output than the old Sentra's 2.0-liter mill, though with just 130 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque it doesn't get the car moving with any sense of urgency. Nissan Sentra 2013 Engine.
Likewise, the CVT has been enhanced with a sub-planetary gear and smaller pulleys, aimed at better low-down response and improved high-speed fuel economy, but without doing much for driving satisfaction. We were able to snag a top-spec Sentra SL for this First Drive report, so we really did get the best that the model has to offer in terms of interior amenities and creature comforts. Adding the Leather (which also adds rear disc brakes, oddly), Premium and Navigation packages ensured that we wouldn't go without two-stage heated front seats, Bose audio, a 5.8-inch infotainment screen with backup camera, that powered sunroof and a few more odds and ends.
Overall the SL felt like a very complete, well-screwed-together cabin with respectable material quality as well as fit and finish (especially considering we had a pre-production model). Some noticeable detractors from the experience were the regrettable wood trim pieces on the center tunnel and the doors, as well as an overly large, thin-rimmed steering wheel that felt as if it were sized for a pickup rather than a compact car. Thankfully, we know that other Sentra trim levels do away with the wood bits the steering wheel is just something we'd have to live with.

BMW 328i Sports Wagon 2013

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
The 2013 wagon drives much like the sedan, feeling poised and balanced overall. The steering is a little light and lacking in feel, but it is accurate. Torsional stiffness is said to be up by 10 percent, and the wagon certainly felt solid and was particularly quiet, which is not easy to achieve when the cabin is so large and extends over the rear axle. The turbocharged four pulls strongly, and we estimate a 0-to-60-mph time of about six seconds, or 0.3 to 0.4 second slower than a 328i sedan. 2013 BMW 328i Sports Wagon.
Even in throttle-dulling eco-pro mode, the transmission is always willing to find the right gear quickly, according to the demands of your right foot. The stop-start system stays out of the driver’s way in operation, but you definitely know when the engine turns on and off. Engine noise and vibration at idle and during startup will have to be reduced by an order of magnitude before these systems become transparent. 2013 BMW 328i Sports Wagon Interior.
The new Sports Wagon will go into production next spring and arrive here shortly afterward. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but if we apply the sedan-to-wagon increase from the prior generation to the new one, we’d expect a base price of about $40,000 for the rear-drive wagon and a two-grand premium for all-wheel drive. For fans of station wagons, the fact that a new five-door 3-series is here at all is good news. That it looks great and drives competently might be considered bonuses. BMW 328i Sports Wagon 2013.
The lift-over height into the cargo area is lower than on the preceding car, and the liftgate opening is several inches wider for easier loading. The hatch is now power operated, and the rear window once again can be opened independently of the sheetmetal. BMW offers the hands-free ability to open the hatch by waving your foot under the bumper, provided the proximity key is with you. This is a feature we’ve seen on European Passat wagons and the latest Ford Escape.
There are a couple of storage compartments under the trunk floor. The forward one has some deep wells, and the rearmost one can hold the roll-up luggage cover when you need it out of the way for taller cargo. Overall, the new model looks a bit sleeker, thanks to the increased length and a beltline that rises more sharply than before. Inside, the wagon looks just like the latest sedan. It has all of that model’s new features, such as the engine stop-start system; an “eco pro” driving mode; electrically boosted steering; and Sport, Modern, Luxury, and M Sport trim options.

Lamborghini Aventador 2014

Automobili Lamborghini presented the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster: the most exciting series production Lamborghini ever built and the new benchmark in the world of open-top luxury super sports cars. On the heels of the successful coupe introduced in Summer 2011, and with over 1,300 units already delivered to customers, the House of the Raging Bull is now offering the convertible version of the Aventador, a vehicle that perfectly balances the ultimate driving experience with the ultimate in sports car sophistication.
The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can immediately be recognized by the unique profile of its upper area, which extends along newly designed geometric lines from the removable roof to the engine hood. The Roadster's design is the result of a careful study into the best way of combining performance, elegant style, ease of use and a driving experience that excites all five senses. The two-piece roof is made entirely from carbon fiber using various technologies such as RTM and Forged Composite®.
These two parts are removable, easy to handle, and being lightweight and simple to attach, can be stored in the front luggage compartment. In just a few seconds the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster can be admired in all its luxurious beauty. The rear pillar has been redesigned to offer total support for the removable roof, accommodate an automatic protection system for passengers, and provide the engine compartment with ample ventilation. Right at first glance, it's noticeable that the engine hood on the Roadster differs from the hood on the coupé because of its central "spinal column" with two pairs of hexagonal windows connected at the sides as if they were hyper-tech armor plates.
The wind deflector, on the other hand, delivers almost complete calm inside the car, even at high speed. It rests on the front windshield frame and can likewise be stored in the luggage compartment when not in use. The Lamborghini Aventador Roadster is also equipped with door windows with chamfered edges, which always ensure a perfect fit into the hard-top seal, and underline the sharp side profile of the car. The body of the new Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster sports a two-tone finish.
The new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Roadster boasts record performance. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3 seconds flat and has a maximum speed of some 350 km/h. These numbers, combined with a drive train featuring a centrally located, 6.5 liter aspirated V12 generating 700 hp, an ISR 7-speed gearbox and push-rod suspension make the new Aventador Roadster a unique super sports car with no direct competition.

Mercedes-Benz CLA Class 2014

The CLA is set to establish a new segment, with world-leading aerodynamics (Cd = 0.22), avant-garde coupé design and 4MATIC all-wheel drive (optional). As a new four-door coupé it follows the idea of the CLS, whose design concept has spawned more than its fair share of imitators since its debut in 2003. With its frameless doors, the coupé adopts the design of the Concept Style Coupé into series production.
The interior additionally derives a very special quality feel from the design idiom, the selection of high-quality materials and the available combinations of materials. All trim surfaces are galvanised, resulting in a metallic finish. The instrument panel incorporates five round vents. The outer rings of the round vents have a high-quality electroplated finish. The airflow direction is governed by a galvanised insert that reveals a meticulous attention to detail.
The CLA is fitted with integral seats in the front and rear, underscoring its sporty character. The rear bench seat emphasizes the outer seats (2+1-seater). Coloured contrasting stitching is available, according to the selected interior appointment options. A fibre-optic cable in the opening between head restraint and backrest is optionally available as part of the ambient lighting. The chassis of the CLA features a McPherson front axle and an independent multilink rear suspension, featuring three control arms and one trailing arm per wheel.
This means that longitudinal and lateral dynamics are virtually independent of one another. A CLA-specific feature is the flexible decoupling of the rear axle carrier, which benefits ride comfort. Wheel carriers and spring links consist of aluminium, in order to reduce the unsprung masses. Two chassis and suspension set-ups are available: the comfort suspension and the optional sports suspension for sporty yet comfortable handling. The latter entails lowering of the body by 20 mm (front) and 15 mm (rear). Mercedes-Benz CLA Class 2014.
A year ahead of the scheduled introduction of the Euro 6 in 2014, all petrol-engine variants and the top diesel variant of the new Mercedes-Benz CLA already meet the future requirements of this European emissions standard. The petrol engines with a displacement of 1.6 and 2.0 litres cover an output spectrum ranging from 90 kW (122 hp) in the CLA 180 through 115 kW (156 hp) in the CLA 200 to 155 kW (211 hp) in the CLA 250. The two diesel engines combine dynamic low-end torque with the utmost efficiency.

Audi RS7 Sportback 2014

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
Audi RS7 Sportback, which made its debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, stands for dynamics at their most beautiful. The large five-door coupe uses a 4.0 TFSI engine producing 412 kW (560 hp). The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) takes just 3.9 seconds, and the speed governor can be deactivated upon customer request to permit a top speed of up to 305 km/h (189.52 mph). Despite this superior performance, the Audi RS7 Sportback consumes on average just 9.8 liters of fuel per 100 km (24.00 US mpg).
Aesthetic design, innovative technology and impressive sportiness: The Audi RS7 Sportback, the large five-door coupe from Audi, combines many strengths to produce a fascinating character. Its strong heart is the 4.0 TFSI, which takes Audi's downsizing strategy to the high-end category. The twin-turbo V8 displaces 3,993 cc and develops awesome power, with 412 kW (560 hp) available between 5,700 and 6,700 rpm. A constant 700 Nm (516.29 lb-ft) of torque are available between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm. Interior of 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback.
Because the high-revving four-liter engine has been rigorously designed for low load-change and flow losses, it develops this power quickly and spontaneously. The cylinder heads have the exhaust side on the inside and the intake side on the outside. The two twin-scroll turbochargers, which produce up to 1.2 bars of relative boost pressure, are located together with the intercooler in the inside V of the cylinder banks. Consequently, the gas paths are very short and response very good. 2014 Audi RS7 Sportback Seats View.
The RS-specific engine management and unthrottled intake system also contribute to the dynamic character of the twin-turbo V8. Switchable flaps in the exhaust system make the engine sound even fuller at the push of a button or under strong acceleration. Audi also offers an optional sport exhaust system. The Audi RS7 Sportback sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 3.9 seconds. Audi limits the top speed in the standard configuration to 250 km/h (155.34 mph). Top speed with the optional dynamic package is 280 km/h (173.98 mph) and 305 km/h (189.52 mph) with the dynamic package plus. Audi RS7 Sportback (2014)
Yet the new top model of the model series consumes on average just 9.8 liters of fuel per 100 km (24.00 US mpg). This top value is due in part to the standard start-stop system and innovative thermal management. The most innovative efficiency technology in the new Audi RS7 Sportback is the cylinder on demand (COD) system. At low to medium loads and engine speeds, it deactivates cylinders 2, 3, 5 and 8 by closing their valves via electromechanical actuators. The 4.0 TFSI then runs as a four-cylinder engine until the driver accelerates more strongly again.

Ford Escape 2013

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
2013 Escape's new, more efficient powertrains, improved refinement and spiffy new technology. Where we can see a lot of eyebrow-raising, however, is in the Escape's design. Now, we'll go on record as saying that we like the looks of the new model, but part of the reason we suspect the Escape was selling so well in 2011 (aside from low prices, of course) was because there are plenty of shoppers who actually preferred the rugged, SUV-like design versus the new crop of sleeker, more car-like CUVs that have come to market.
But think about it: The current Escape wears one of the oldest designs in the entire Ford portfolio. And while the automaker understands that loyalists really valued and appreciated the SUV-ness of the outgoing model, the company is "confident that [the new] design resonates with target customers," according to Hau Thai-Tang, vice president of engineering for global product development. Versus the outgoing model, the 2013 Escape is 3.4 inches longer, half an inch wider and 3.8 inches shorter in height. The new car also rides half an inch closer to the ground, making ingress.
Interior is comfortable, pleasant and, more importantly, quiet. At highway speeds, there's a bit of wind and road noise nothing out of the ordinary, though but at lower speeds, it's librarian-approved silent in there. Visibility is good from all angles, but even so, Ford offers the Escape with a host of safety goodies like a rearview camera, cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and active park assist to keep you from dinging into cars, shopping carts, poles and people.
The majority of Escapes you'll see on the road will have EcoBoost power part of Ford's strategy to offer turbocharged engines on 90 percent of its models by 2013. The standard engine on the volume SE and SEL models is the all-new 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, good for 178 hp and 184 lb-ft and also mated to a six-speed automatic (read: not the dual-clutch PowerShift that's been so poorly received in the Focus and Fiesta). We didn't have a chance to test the 1.6 while in San Francisco, but other journalists we talked to said that it was plenty powerful.
The big win for the 1.6 EcoBoost, though, is fuel economy. Ford is still awaiting official EPA ratings, but this smaller turbo-four is expected to achieve 24 miles per gallon in the city and 33 mpg on the highway class-leading stuff for automatic-equipped CUVs. Only the 2013 Mazda CX-5 with its six-speed manual 'box is more efficient.

Toyota Furia 2014

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
The Furia's wheelbase is 4 inches longer than that of the current Corolla and the Furia is 2 inches longer overall. Pushing the wheels to the corners typically has advantages in dynamic handling and interior room but tends to reduce trunk space. Also, the Furia is wider but the outgoing Corolla is taller. In a press release, Toyota calls the Furia's styling language "iconic dynamism which uses pure and simple surface elements to create a confident, decisive and recognizable appearance appealing to more youthful consumers."
How close is the Furia to the production Corolla? Toyota insiders said there will be few changes. In the press release, photographs show paper license plates that say "Corolla" in large letters, with "Furia Concept" in much smaller type beneath it. But not everything will reach production. For instance, the Furia comes with 19-inch wheels, which clearly won't make the cut when the production model arrives. The standard Corolla comes with a choice of 15- or 16-inch wheels.
Critics have noted that the Corolla is emblematic of Toyota's need to move away from dowdy styling, saying that compared with vibrant compact sedans from Ford, Mazda, Hyundai and Kia, the Corolla is downright dreary. Toyota has previously pitched the Corolla as the Lexus of affordable transportation, but that has left its styling well short of the cutting edge. Now it seems Toyota has determined that younger buyers require more intriguing design.
"The Corolla Furia Concept is an early indicator of where our compact car design may lead in the future," said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager of the Toyota Division. "It blends a heightened emphasis on dramatic design and modern elements of high technology to generate curb appeal that will surprise a lot of people." The Furia is designed around a theme of "Iconic Dynamism," which uses pure and simple surface elements to create a confident, decisive and recognizable appearance appealing to more youthful consumers.
It features a more provocative, dynamic interpretation of a compact sedan that displays a more stable, athletic stance with 19-inch allow wheels pushed to the vehicle's corners with short overhangs to help emphasize its long wheelbase. The Corolla Furia design includes a swept windshield, with a sloped roofline and pronounced fender flares, to help communicate a sense of motion even when the car is stationary.

Nissan Altima 2013

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
2013 Nissan Altima, introduced at the New York auto show, is being pitched into a mid-size family-sedan market that has never had as many new, competitive models. By the end of 2012, all of the traditional big sellers in the segment (Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet Malibu, and Ford Fusion) will be either new-for-2013 or freshly launched in the last year or two. And that list doesn’t even include the vehicles that are newly relevant in the market, such as the Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima, and Volkswagen Passat. And, for good measure, a new Mazda 6 will be on sale early next year.
Nissan, which is proud to point out that its 2012 Altima outsold everything but the Camry last year, will enter the market with an all-new car that sticks to the basic parameters of its proven formula. The new car rides on the same 109.3-inch wheelbase and grows only about an inch in overall length. It’s 1.3 inches wider than the outgoing car. It rides on a strut front and multilink rear suspension (although Nissan notes that the rear setup has been redesigned to improve handling prowess). Interior of Nissan Altima 2013.
It is powered, as it has been for years, by either a 2.5-liter inline-four or a 3.5-liter V-6, but now will be offered at least at launch only with a CVT automatic. (We had previously believed a manual would be available with either engine; this is looking unlikely for now or the future.) But that 2.5-liter gets a 7-hp bump to an estimated 182, while dropping 11 pounds of mass. A substantially reworked CVT (70 percent of its parts are new for a 40-percent reduction in internal friction) helps deliver an estimated 15-percent improvement in fuel economy when mated to the four-cylinder. Nissan Altima Engine.
It helps improve fuel economy by 10 percent when mated with the carry-over 270-hp V-6. The end result, estimates Nissan, is class-leading fuel efficiency of 27 mpg city and 38 mpg highway. That’s higher than Chevrolet’s light-hybrid Malibu Eco. The V-6 models are estimated to return 22/30 mpg, city/highway. Overall, the Altima sedan has dropped 79 pounds of curb weight, according to the company, which would make it one of the lightest in the class. The car certainly doesn’t look light, though. Its increased width and curvaceous, almost chunky, body makes it appear substantial.
The new look mixes stylistic elements from throughout the Nissan family: a little Infiniti G37 in its surfacing, some Maxima in its headlights and undulating flank, and, from the Ellure concept sedan shown at the 2010 Los Angeles auto show comes a big, chrome-framed grille. The body is stiffer thanks to greater use of high-strength steel, a new front strut-tower brace and additional structural support aft of the passenger cabin.

Ford Mustang 2013

♠ Posted by Admin in ,
2013 Ford Mustang has been bred for one purpose: provide daily drivers with weekend-racer performance in a comfortable, yet affordable package. As usual, the Mustang is available in a variety of different trims. From the base V6 ($22,000) all the way up to the fire-breathing Boss 302 (42,000); there is a breed of Mustang for all walks (and wallets) of life. Our recent time with the top-shelf GT Premium V8 ($39,750) represents a fine balance of contemporary appointments and retro style, but our main goal was to see if Ford has managed to develop an even smarter pony.
The Mustang’s interior is well appointed, if not a bit barren. Large swathes of dash crash down in front the driver with little imagination or cohesion. Ford’s designers seemed to have glossed over simple ergonomics in place of  a more retro-themed design. Both the tachometer and speedometer are housed in large circular clusters designed to recall images of 1960s ‘Stangs with bell-bottomed drivers, and afro-haired passengers. The seats seem wide enough to fit two, ensuring even the portliest of modern day pilots will rest comfortably. Interior of Ford Mustang 2013.
The 2013 Ford Mustang trots along with an impressive array of standard tech features, including Sync with AppLink, hands-free calling via Bluetooth, and a voice-activated music search. aking an iconic car like the Mustang and bestowing it with a contemporary design isn’t a task we envy (actually that’s a lie, we envy it big time). Powertrain options for front-engine, rear-wheel-drive 2013 Ford Mustang consist of the base model’s 3.7-liter V6 (305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque) and the Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 (420 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque). Drivers can also pony up for the even beastlier Boss 302, which builds upon the GT’s standard V8’s power output by belting out 444 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.
